Let’s just say that traveling call was a bit dubious. But, so was the non-call that preceded it.
Not sure why Singler was so close to the sideline on the final play, but I could see that the baseline was open as soon as Wake started their offense. Oh well. Credit Wake for calling a great play out of a time out. A much deserved win and a fun game to watch. But I think it does the school a disservice when the fans rush the court like that. Your # 4 in the nation, act like you’ve been there before.
Also, the only team to play worse defense than Duke in a late game situation? Florida State.

Looks like Sunday is going to rank mighty low on the productivity scale.
Manchester United-Chelsea 11 a.m. FSC
Philadelphia at NY Giants 1:00 p.m. FOX
San Diego at Pittsburgh 4:45 p.m. CBS
I hope Summers has plenty of Stella on hand.
Keep in mind this doesn’t include Celtics @ Cavs tonight on ESPN (we need a W in the worst way. Obvs.) or the Panthers v. Cards game Saturday night.
BTW, the Panthers are totally winning the Superbowl.

Lookin’ pretty damn good so far.
Only 11 NBA teams have started a season 20-2.
A win here in D.C. on Thursday will give the team their best start IN FRANCHISE HISTORY.

I was fast asleep by the time all this went down last night. Pretty great ending. Should I even mention that the C’s originally drafted Brandon Roy? Oh well, doesn’t matter.

Best evs!
Rather than write a long post about how awesome our country is (there are more eloquent people for that), let’s just go with the image above, which sums it all up nicely.
All last night, I kept thinking to myself, “How did KG’s shoes look?” Thanks to Matt for passing this image along (looks like it comes from Nice Kicks, so respect to them).
Also, some of us were working on non-election related things last night. I got some pretty incredible photos at the Usher show at the Warner Theatre. I’m not really a fan, but he was GREAT. Head over to the WaPo’s Post Rock blog to check out the full set.
2008 really has been the best. year. ever.

“This year marks only the third time ever that the NBA Finals drew a higher rating than the World Series in the same calendar year. The two prior occasions involved Michael Jordan (1993 and 1998). For the first time ever, not a single baseball game — regular season, All Star or otherwise — drew a double digit rating.”

Games don’t start until close to 9 and rarely finish before midnight and they wonder why no one watches?

The Celtics begin the defense of their 17th World Championship tonight in Boston. Are you ready? Paul Pierce is:

“Most guys come in full of champagne and caviar after a season like that,” coach Doc Rivers said. “Paul realized winning feels good and said, ‘I want to do it again.'”He’s quicker and faster this year. He’s probably at the age now where he does have to focus on weight and all that other stuff, but it’s great to see him come back like this.”

KG is already locked in:

But the Celtics are old and wise enough to realize their reign will not last forever. Pierce turned 31 this month, and he is the youngest of the Big Three – Kevin Garnett is 32, Ray Allen 33. Garnett talks of “two more summers as short as this one was.”

And Danny Ainge got a contract extension and promotion.
Yay basketball!

Marathon-2956.jpg
Mrs. Leaf and I braved the unseasonably warm weather yesterday and took in miles 18 and 19 of the 33rd Annual Marine Corps Marathon. It was a lot of fun and the weather was just gorgeous. Quite a few people seemed to hit the wall as they came around the corner near the Capitol Building, but there was a high school band playing songs like “The Theme From Rocky” to get them going again. Pretty cool. One of my co-workers finished 308th. Out of like 18,000. Jeebus.
