Man, time flies when you’re having fun and writing about it. On this day five years ago, yours truly fired up Blogger and tried out this newfangled fad called “blogging.”
A lot has changed since then (I’ve moved six times, had three different cats, used three different blogging systems and had four different blog designs) and it’s been quite a journey from writing stuff that I never thought anyone will read to running one of the longest running music blogs on the web*.
Late last week I found out I got a promotion at work, which means less time for blogging, but we’ll deal with that as it comes. Five years ago I certainly didn’t think I’d still be at this today, so…here’s to the next five.

* a sweeping, tongue-in-cheek generalization that I have no facts to back up. Notice I didn’t say “one of the most popular.”

Mr. Pink Will Be Your DJ For The Evening
Happy Record Store Day everyone. Go buy some vinyl or that long lost import single that you can’t get on iTunes.
To commemorate the day, Washingtonian asked me to share some thoughts on the matter. Here they are.
And here are some tunes to celebrate:
[mp3] Supergrass | Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others (Smiths cover)
[mp3] Oasis | Street Fighting Man (Rolling Stones Cover)
Play them loudly!

I’m enjoying my second day at home on the couch due to flu-like symptoms. My aches and congestion went away overnight, although I seem to have developed a cough this morning. Ugh. Oh well, I’m getting plenty of nap time with Mr. Pink.
During my downtime, I’m subjecting myself to a bunch of crappy movies. Miami Vice was terribly confusing and didn’t make a lick of sense, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny was one of the worst movie I’ve ever seen and The Mummy hasn’t aged well. But Thank You For Smoking still worked for me the second time around. Then again, I have a thing for Maria Bello.
And I don’t care how bored I am, there’s no way I’m watching Lady in the Water.

Not to keep playing the “Woe Is Me” card, but last night there were people coming home from the Wizards game when I got on the Metro after finally leaving the office. I’m at the point where I’ve stopped reading blogs because I’m sick of reading about people actually having a life.
But wait! It gets worse. I dropped my iPod on the concrete on the way home and now I’m getting the dreaded Question Mark Folder of Death. I can hear the hard drive clicking when it’s trying to retrieve a song.
Dagger.
The good news? I think Mr. Pink is getting the hang of Tumblr, so he’s going to start blogging on my behalf.

I went out of my way to buy Mr. Pink all sorts of presents this year for Pinkmas (he even had a makeshift “stocking”) but he ended up playing with a strip of ribbon for most of the day. *sigh*

Not sure if you can expect anything new from Team Leafblower for the rest of the year. I’m on my way out to sunny California to take in the Rose Parade, New Years and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Thanks to everyone for checking out in my little slice of the interwebs this year. It’s a struggle at times to keep this thing updated on a regular basis but the leafblower wouldn’t be my labor of love if it was easy. I have a few low-key things to announce in January (along with, hopefully, a redesign – *fingers crossed*), but until then, here’s to a fun-filled and action-packed 2008!
